Waste Management

Waste is a by-product of our daily conduct. On-site management action at Ramat Hanadiv also leads to accumulation of waste. The waste is produced during gardening, construction, work on infrastructure, and catering, as well as the daily activities of our employees, volunteers and visitors. Waste management at Ramat Hanadiv is based on a desire to reduce the amounts of waste being transferred to landfill.

פחים 2

Waste produced on site impacts the environment. Transfer of waste to landfill causes air, soil, and water pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, and waste of resources, and negatively impacts our health and quality of life.

Waste management at Ramat Hanadiv follows three main principles:

  • Reduction at source – optimising purchasing needs to prevent waste, combined with actions to prevent the production of unnecessary waste
    • Thinking about the end of life of the product when choosing materials
    • Product reuse
    • Product renewal
    • Reduction of packaging
    • Use of real (reusable) utensils
  •  Locating local solutions on site and using waste as a resource
    • The compost site combines the gardening waste with waste from the sheep and goat pen to produce compost that is used to fertilise the gardens.
    • Cooking gas produced from organic waste by a biogas digester
    • On-site water purification facility
  • Reducing the amount of waste transferred to landfill through separation at source
    • Collection of many waste flows that are transferred as raw material to industry, thus minimising the negative impacts of landfill.
