A Stroll in the gardens

The magnificent, manicured Memorial Gardens stretch across some 17 acres (70 dunam). In 1954, the remains of Baron Edmond de Rothschild and his wife, Baroness Adelaide, were brought to Israel and reinterred in a state ceremony at Ramat Hanadiv. Ever since that day, the gates of the Gardens have been open to the public. Despite their proximity to roads and towns, their design ensures that visitors can disconnect totally from the hubbub outside the Gardens and enjoy the perfect quiet and serenity within. At the heart of the Gardens is the Crypt of the Baron and Baroness. Surrounding it are the exquisite Rose Garden, Iris Garden, Palm Garden, Fragrance Garden, and Cascade Garden. Every one of these has its own special beauty, inviting the visitor to reconnect with nature and experience rare tranquility. Do come for an unforgettable walk along the lovely main paths of the Garden, and don’t forget to take a detour or two into some hidden byways as well.

Memorial Gardens Main Entrance

Amphitheater

An amphitheatre-shaped complex stands at the heart of the gardens. The outdoor stage at its centre is surrounded by grassed-in 'steps' where the audience can sit.

The Crypt

In the western part of the Memorial Gardens, near the mausoleum of Baron Rothschild and his wife, is the Cascade garden. The structure and location of the garden impart a magical, unique atmosphere.

Garden History

On his fourth visit to the Land of Israel in February of 1914, Baron Edmond de Rothschild toured the southern end of the Carmel hills and expressed his desire to be buried ‘in the rock’. His Will included specific instructions that he be buried in what was then called Palestine
